Why Visit
Eastern India?
Eastern India is extremely diverse as it includes one of India’s most crowded cities (Kolkata) as well as some of its most remote areas. It is perhaps the area least visited so a good option if you like to get off the tourist routes.
The north eastern states are rural and being landlocked and surrounded by the countries of Bangladesh, China, Bhutan, Burma and Nepal there is considerable ethnic and religious diversity – much of the population is tribal. The region is home to some of India’s most endangered wildlife (including the one-horned rhinoceros and Bengal tiger). The tiny state of Sikkim has valleys and terraced rice fields surrounded by mountains including Kanchenjunga the third highest in the world..
