Houseboats
Kettuvallams or rice barges converted to houseboats are a unique feature of the Kerala Backwaters. These boats were originally used for transporting rice and other goods and are traditionally made of Anjli wood, bamboo and coir. The boats move slowly along the waterways, covering approximately 20 km per day. Meals are cooked and taken on board and traditional Kerala food is served.
This is often a highlight of a holiday and we recommend a two night stay.
