Train journeys are a great way to experience the real India – the buzz of the platform, interacting with the local people and seeing the countryside whizz past the window. In addition to passenger trains and luxury trains India has some mountain railways (UNESCO World Heritage sites).
Passenger Trains
We can arrange many train journeys to compliment your tour, including travelling from Delhi to Agra on the fast Gatimaan Express or taking the overnight sleeper train from Bangalore to the historic site of Hampi. Our South India by Rail is a popular tour and visits Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu.
Luxury Trains
If you don’t like packing up suitcases every few days then a great way to see some of India’s finest spots is to take a trip on one of the luxury trains. In South India there are a few journeys you can take on the Golden Chariot that explores Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
In North India, you can see destinations such as Delhi, Agra, Varanasi and Mumbai on the Maharaja’s Express.

Toy Trains
There are several narrow-gauge railways that can be added to itineraries, two are situated in the Himalayas – Darjeeling and Shimla. In the southern state of Tamil Nadu, you can travel from Mettupalayam to the hill station of Ooty.
There is also a train journey just outside of Mumbai, that takes you to the hill station of Matheran.
