Dharamshala is the home of the Dalai Lama. The town is a popular destination due to its altitude (1,457 m) and the surrounding woodlands. Following the Chinese occupation of Tibet many refugees followed the Dalai Lama to Dharamshala and this Tibetan population has added to the attraction of the town for tourists.

Palampur

The attractive town of Palampur is also situated in the beautiful Kangra Valley with its gentle tea gardens and terraced paddy. Palampur is considered to be the tea capital of the North West.

Pragpur

The village of Pragpur along with the nearby village of Garli are categorised as ‘Heritage Villages’ by the State Government. The Kangra Valley, where these villages are situated, is between the Shivalik foothills and the Dhauladhar Range and averages a height of 600 m. There is a mountain railway line operating in the valley from Pathankot to Jogindernagar.
