Clarkes was the hotel that started the Oberoi dynasty. The Oberoi now operate some of the best and most expensive hotels in India so they no longer use the name Oberoi to market this hotel. But it is still owned by them so although the accommodation is simple you can still expect a high quality of service.

The Property
Clarkes is located on Shimla’s Mall Road, an oasis of calm on the bustling promenade. Built in 1898, the original name of the hotel – The Carlton – was owned by a British couple – Mr and Mrs Clarke. It is just 10 minutes by car from Shimla Railway Station and is within walking distance of the Gaiety Theatre, Gorton Castle, Rothney Castle, many churches and other colonial era buildings.
