Amritsar

Amritsar in the Punjab was founded in 1577 by Guru Ram Das and is best known as being home to the beautiful Golden Temple, the spiritual centre of the Sikh religion. This shrine is said to attract more visitors than the Taj Mahal. While at Amritsar you can also visit Jallianwala Bagh (Garden) the scene of the 1919 massacre by British soldiers under the command of General Dyer. Amritsar is known for its food and culture.
