The south of India is quite different to the rest of the country. It has a more tropical climate, is less populated and the pace of life is slower. The history is different too - Dravidian with very little Muslim influence as the Mugal Empire did not make it past the Deccan Plateau. This has left South India with different languages, food and culture. South India has mountains and beaches, forests and lakes, palaces and temples, cities and wildlife sanctuaries. International Airports: Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, Calicut, Goa World Heritage Sites: Mahabalipuram, the Chola Temples of Tanjore and the mountain railway to Ooty in Tamil Nadu, Hampi and Pattadakal in Karnataka, the churches and convents of Goa and the Western Ghat mountains.
